Telling stories to each other is as old as humanity itself. But the ability to "read" our environment is at least as old. Knowing your surroundings was essential if you wanted to stay alive. Every detail could matter and for that you had to examine and interpret your environment. Stories can structure complex situations and make them legible. As a "design tool" spatial narratives have the opportunity to shape urban landscape. In addition to being used as a tool to tell stories from the past, this method can also be used to form new stories. Spatial stories have the potential to add meaning to the urban landscape, to intensify the experience of places and to make the nature of a place legible. Urban landscapes can be formed that are worth remembering. Every scene of the urban space tells a story, lets you experience an atmosphere and feel an emotion.
The city is a field full of stories, consisting of the life paths of residents but also the biography of the city itself.
Every place can tell a story. And so are the people who live there.
In short, storytelling means using stories to achieve a goal and create engagement. Unlike data and facts, stories make it possible to touch people.
With a story you can make people enthusiastic to commit themselves to a greater cause. Moreover, you can create clarity with a story because a story is a concrete example of a point that you want to make.
